Quay Flats Are Key To Town Connection

Western Telegraph, 12th March 2008

Approval has been given to 81 new apartments in Milford Haven.

The Victoria Quay development will be located on the land now occupied by the old Victoria Filling Station.

On 0.8 hectares of land alongside the docks the developer, Thornsett Structures Ltd will build four new blocks and convert the grade II listed Quay Stores building to offer 34 one bedroom and 47 two bedroom flats.  There will also be 120 parking spaces underneath and to the rear of the buildings.

Thornsett is the London based group behind several top-end developments in Pembrokeshire, including the Smokehouse Quay in Milford and the North Quay apartments opposite Pembroke Castle.

This time the developer is providing a mix of extravagance and affordability, with six luxury penthouses and several one bedroom flats forecast to cost under £100k.

Council planners welcomed the development, explaining that the area around the filling station is currently run down and the new apartments would complement the area’s regeneration.

Their report said the renovation of the Quay Stores was sympathetic to the building, and would prolong its long term future.

David Cochlin, manager of the Welsh branch of Thornsett, said: "It’s the missing link - it will connect the harbour and the newly regenerated areas to the town centre.

"The councillors obviously agree because they voted unanimously to approve the plans.

"There are a minimum of 15 to 16 apartments that we are aiming to sell under £100k," he added.
