A new development in Sunderland’s Victorian heartland has been given the official seal of approval.

Mayor of Sunderland Council Les Scott officially opened the show apartment at the Thornsett Group’s Thornlea Court in Thornhill Park, Ashbrooke.

The gated development is the company’s first residential scheme in the North East and consists of 24 two-bedroom apartments and four three-bedroom penthouses.

There is on-site parking, each penthouse has a spacious terrace and the ground-floor apartments have private gardens.

Thornsett director Bernadette Cunningham said: "Sunderland is undergoing a £1billion regeneration and is expected to require new housing for an additional 11,000 to 14,500 people."

Brendan Hackett, of Hackett Property, which is marketing the development, said: "Thornsett’s development represents a whole new level of construction and specification, as well as sophistication and style, that we don’t see in the mainstream housebuilders."

Councilor Scott, said: "It is very pleasing to see a housebuilder like Thornsett, who has prestigious schemes in London and Brussels, attracted to development opportunities in Sunderland."

Prices at Thornlea Court start from £162,500.
