Brussels Sprouts

Easyjet Magazine, May 2007

Prices in Brussels are predicted to climb by around 10%-15% over the next year so it’s no surprise that the city is getting ready to welcome a new raft of developments. Easyjet starts flying from Geneva to Brussels from 29th June, so passengers will be ideally placed to take advantage of the new opportunities. The first of these is "Aloft", a new apartment venture from hotel company Starwood (owners of the uber-trendy W hotel chain). The mixed-use hotel and residential development will offer superior quality, loft-style apartments a stone’s throw from the European Commission and parliament buildings in the Leopold district of the city and is one of at least five chic new residential projects about to launch here. It’s surely a sign that Brussels is finally shaking off its dull, Eurocrat image.

Eoghan Quinn of Thornsett Development, which is responsible for the Aloft project says the company settled on Brussels because it showed all the signs of a secure and established market (because of the European institutions) make Brussels an educated investment choice for property buyers. There’s no tax on residential rental income and no capital gains tax if the property is held for more than five years, which makes owning in Brussels very appealing."
