Quill Street
This large residential project, sold to a consortium led by the New Islington and Hackney Association, has created a new London street with 50 houses and 111 flats.
The layout of this significant new development mirrors the townscape of existing terraced housing in the area, and evolved through a series of meetings with the Planning Authority, the Housing Associations and Ward Councillors. Alongside this process, and playing an equally important role, was the on-going dialogue with local residents who provided input and support for the project.
Located on the site of disused railway sidings and with both overground and underground railways still in the proximity, the elimination of potential noise and vibration were important factors in the design process.
Apart from creating an entirely new street for London, the use of open space is a major feature of the new development. Each home has its own outside space and the development also includes five acres of land, given to the London Borough of Islington, as an open space area of ecological interest for local residents.
