Meridian House
This contract called for the construction of a complete new wing, to expand the facilities and accommodation at Leyton Sixth Form College. On the ground floor, new changing and showering facilities have been provided for the adjacent sports hall, while the upper floors are given over to new classrooms.
The new wing stands on the Meridian Line and is aptly named Meridian House. The sculptures which decorate the façade of the building were funded by Thornsett Group plc and The Association for Business Sponsorship of the Arts. Continuing the Meridian theme, the sculptures include images of astronomical instruments and were created by Diane Maclean RBSS, a sculptor of international repute.
Sponsorship of the sculptures resulted in Thornsett receiving an award from the Secretary of State for National Heritage.
